Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) deputy general secretary and former Tamil Nadu minister K P Munusamy Wednesday said the party will not go back on its decision to break the alliance with the BJP.

Addressing reporters in Krishnagiri, he said state BJP chief K Annamalai continued to make remarks against former chief minister C N Annadurai and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palanisami despite the party passing a resolution against him. He said the party’s cadres were deeply hurt and angered by Annamalai’s actions.

The AIADMK on Monday snapped all ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “An important meeting involving senior leaders, district secretaries, MLAs and MPs took place on September 25 under our party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. Reflecting the sentiments of over 2 crore cadres, it was unanimously decided to exit from the BJP-led NDA,” Munusamy said.

He said a few political analysts and media claim that both parties are still likely to join again, but he would like to clarify that there is no chance.

“Chief Minister M K Stalin has called our decision a drama, but it shows nothing but their fear. I want to reiterate that AIADMK will form an alliance under the leadership of Edappadi for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

Responding to a question on the speculations that AIADMK is urging the BJP high command to change Annamalai as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, Munusamy said the AIADMK is a party that was in power for over 30 years and that he considers these questions and speculations as childish and the party would never do it.

When asked who the party would make the prime ministerial candidate, Munisamy said that even the INDIA bloc had yet to decide on its prime ministerial candidate. Just like other political parties in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the AIADMK will raise its voice for the welfare of the Tamils in Parliament and seek the requisite funds for the development of the state.

“Our decision is not just for the Parliament election but also for the 2026 Assembly polls. We will form a new alliance under the leadership of our general secretary and face the elections,” he added.
