Zirakpur: Two killed on roadside after car loses control, driver flees from spot

According to sources, a Mahindra XUV was coming from Chandigarh side towards Zirakpur and when it crossed the Chandigarh border, the driver of the vehicle lost control. The XUV first broke an electric pole and then veered off towards the other side.

Two persons were killed in an accident on Chandigarh-Zirakpur Road after a rashly driven Mahindra XUV hit them on Thursday night. The driver of the XUV, along with his four friends, including three girls, fled from the spot.
Police impounded the vehicle and started investigation.

According to sources, a Mahindra XUV was coming from Chandigarh side towards Zirakpur and when it crossed the Chandigarh border, the driver of the vehicle lost control. The XUV first broke an electric pole and then veered off towards the other side.

The police said the deceased have been identified as Ram Rattan (47), a resident of Ram Darbar, Chandigarh, and his friend Dinesh (45), a resident of Raipur village. Dinesh was working as a security guard in a factory in Bhawat, while Ram was a vendor. The deceased were killed on the spot.

Baltana police post in-charge Phool Chand said they have impounded the XUV and started investigation after registering an FIR against unknown persons. He said the accused will be arrested soon. Ram Rattan’s son Balkrishan said passersby told him that his father and Dinesh were coming from a petrol pump after buying diesel.
