Additional District And Sessions Judge Sanjay Sandhir Friday awarded a three-year prison term to a youth convicted of kidnapping a minor girl.
The court pronounced the sentence here Friday against Sonu,a resident of Ambala, for kidnapping a minor girl of Pinjore in July last year. Sonu alias Vicky was booked by police on July 4 last year and a case of kidnapping and rape was registered against him at Pinjore police station. The girl was later found in Ambala and re-united with her family.
Special public prosecutor Amarjeet Singh said although the minor girl,in her deposition before the court, had said she had gone on her own, wasnt subjected to any force and had in fact also married Sonu,it couldnt be held valid as she was a minor.
The victim didnt support the police charges and instead said she married the boy of her own will. However, that cannot be proved in court as the girl is a minor, said Singh. The prosecutor also added that they had produced the school certificate to prove that the girl was a minor.
Police had registered the case based on a complaint filed by the girls stepmother Champa Devi, who alleged that the girl was kidnapped by Sonu.
Champa Devi told police that she ran a juice shop at Pinjore and her stepdaughter used to help her. Last year, she found the girl missing from the shop and traced her to the residence of one Chandan. The girls mother warned her against visiting Chandans house again. She also reported to police that the accused Sonu, whose sister was married at Pinjore, lured the girl and later kidnapped her.
According to police, the girl had called her stepmother from Ambala and told her that she had married Sonu. However, police arrested the boy from Pinjore for kidnapping the girl.
