Workshops on epilepsy conclude

A series of workshops on “first aid management of epilepsy” for school teachers and students of Chandigarh organised by School of Public Health,PGIMER,on its premises in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission,UT Chandigarh,concluded on Thursday.

A series of workshops on “first aid management of epilepsy” for school teachers and students of Chandigarh organised by School of Public Health,PGIMER,on its premises in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission,UT Chandigarh,concluded on Thursday.

These workshops were part of the project entitled “Evaluating the impact of comprehensive epilepsy education programme for school teachers in Chandigarh city”,sponsored by NRHM,UT,Chandigarh. The workshops and related activities were dedicated to the golden jubilee celebration of PGIMER,Chandigarh. A total of 174 participants,comprising teachers and students,from 70 public and 30 private schools of Chandigarh participated in batches during four days of the workshops.

These workshops had been planned with an objective of enhancing knowledge and skills about epilepsy among school teachers and students.

Dr Paramjyoti,in-charge of School Health Programme,UT,Chandigarh,elaborated on the genesis of these workshops in collaboration with School of Public Health. She also briefed about the pilot phase of “health promoting schools” concept in Chandigarh,only third city among Asian cities after Singapore and Thailand to implement this concept.

Dr Vivek Lal,Professor,Department of Neurology,explained the management of epilepsy. He demonstrated the management of epilepsy on dummy. He emphasized dos and don’ts during epileptic fits. Booklets,in both Hindi and English,on ‘first aid management of epilepsy in school settings’ were given to each participant.
