Woman injured while getting off bus,driver arrested after she dies
Mohali: The Mohali police have arrested a bus driver in a case of death by negligence after a 75-year-old woman was killed while getting down from the bus at Mullanpur. According to the complainant,Ram Bhagat,son of the deceased,he went to receive his mother,who was travelling in a mini-bus from Kharar to Mullanpur,at the Mullanpur Gurudwara Sunday morning. While she was getting down,the driver of the bus,Bhupinder Singh,allegedly started moving the bus due to which she fell down and sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Wallet stolen from parked car
Chandigarh: An unidentified person on Sunday stole items kept in a car after smashing one of its window panes. The car was parked in a hotels parking lot in Sector 17 at the time of incident. The car owners wallet containing cash and other belongings was stolen. A case of theft under the IPC has been registered at Sector 17 police station. This is the third case in past one week wherein unidentified thieves have stolen items from a car in a similar manner.
Newspaper vendor held for harassment
Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested a newspaper vendor for allegedly passing lewd remarks at a girl who was taking her morning walk in Sector 8-B. The girl called the police and the accused Kumar was arrested on the spot. The accused,Kumar,was sent to judicial custody by a local court.
PU holds Web Development seminar
Chandigarh: A seminar on Web Development was organized by the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET),Panjab University (PU) on Monday. The seminar was aimed towards encouraging the students to get involved in professional web development right from the university level.
MC to decide on land for PGI sub-centre
Chandigarh: The municipal corporation (MC) will hold a discussion on allotting land to PGI for setting up a sub-centre at Indira Colony,Manimajra,during the General House meeting on October 31. As the civic body has land available at Manimajra for the purpose,the areas residents would be benefited since specialists would for examine the patients here. Though the proposal was approved earlier,the location has now been changed by the MC.
Dhabas raided,10 cylinders confiscated
Chandigarh: The Department of Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs of the Administration raided dhabas and several eating joints in Sector 15 market and confiscated 10 domestic cylinders that the shop owners were using for commercial purposes. An FIR has been registered with the Sector 11 police. There is always a shortage of cylinders during the festive season. Shopkeepers are using domestic cylinders for commercial purposes, said Amandeep Singh,inspector of Food and Supplies and Consumer affairs department.
Best manager contest today at PU
Chandigarh: As many as 70 teams from various departments of Panjab University (PU) are all set to compete in the The Best Manager contest to be held in the varsity on Tuesday.
Various departments including University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS),University Business School (UBS) and University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET),are participating in the event being organised by a team of students from UIAMS. The event will start in the morning at the Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (SSB UICET) Auditorium. The teams will be judged on three parameters which include Financial skills,Marketing skills and Human Resource (HR) skills. There will be three rounds to assess these managerial skills.
