Woman found dead,father alleges dowry killing by husband

Anu (27),a resident of Guru Nanak Vihar colony in Dhakoli,Zirakpur was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house on Wednesday evening.

In the initial investigation,the police found it a case of strangulation and a dupatta used for this purpose was also recovered from the spot. Police have booked the deceased’s husband Ashok Kumar under Section 302 of IPC on the complaint of her father while further investigations are on.

According to Zirakpur SHO SP Singh,the authority of JP Hospital,Zirakpur informed the police on Wednesday night that a woman was rushed to the hospital and was found dead on arrival after which the police started the investigations.

During the interrogations,the husband Ashok Kumar,an engineer with a media organization,said that he had left the house on Wednesday morning at around 8.30 am and when he reached back home at 8.30 pm,he found his wife lying down on the floor in the bedroom. He rushed her to JP Hospital,Zirakpur where she was declared brought dead. He informed the police that his wife was employed as a typist at JP Hospital. The hospital authorities said that she did not come to duty on Wednesday.

SP Anil Sharma told Newsline that police found it a case of murder and the accused was not an outsider as police found Rs 40,000 cash and jewellery from the house and nor was it a case of sexual harassment as no such marks were found on the body.

On the other hand,the investigations revealed that Ashok Kumar used to pick his wife from the hospital everyday but he did not pick her up on Tuesday evening. Apart from that it was found that Ashok Kumar had gone somewhere during his office hours on Wednesday,during which he may have murdered his wife,said the SP.

Deceased’s father Daya Nand,a native of UP,told police that his daughter Anu had got married to Ashok Kumar on January 30,2010 since when she was being forced by her husband for bringing more dowry. He said that he had also given a cash amount of Rs 4 lakh for buying a house.

It was on March 12 that his daughter called him and said that Ashok was demanding more money for the house. Anu’s father alleged that Ashok Kumar killed his daughter after which police booked him under Section 302 of IPC and initiated investigations.

On the other hand,Ashok Kumar’s colleagues claim he is innocent. The body of the deceased has been sent to Civil Hospital,Dera Bassi for postmortem,said the police. SP Anil Sharma said that the detailed investigations are on and police is about to receive the call detail and locations of Ashok’s mobile phone. The case will soon be resolved,said the SP.
