A 32-year-old pregnant woman has died on Saturday while in labour in Government Hospital 16. Manju was third time pregnant and was due to deliver a child when she collapsed in labor. The delivery was being conducted by a senior doctor and the woman’s husband and mother-in-law were present at the time of the incidence.
Manju is a resident of Manimajra and her husband runs a poultry. The family members expressed their shock at Manju’s death saying that she regularly visited the government hospital Manimajra and all her reports had been normal. Before the delivery,an ultrasound was conducted on her and the report did not reveal any abnormality.
“We conducted her monthly check-ups and everything was fine. She was admitted here on Thursday but everything was normal till she was went in labor. It is the doctor’s negligence because she did not have any prior complications,” said Tarun.
While the woman’s husband has approached the Police,the hospital denies allegations of negligence. “The delivery was conducted normally but forceps were applied. There was no negligence as a senior doctor was conducting the delivery and a physician on duty was called at the time of incidence. We have not had any incidence of death due to negligence over an year and this is a loss to the hospital,” said Dr Soma from UT Health Department.
Hospital authorities say that the cause of death is yet to be determined.“She died due to a cardiac arrest,although she did not have any history of hypertension or epilepsy. The cause of death would be determined by the post mortem meanwhile a medical audit would be conducted,” says a senior functionary.
