Woman denies rape by colleague,charges against accused dropped

The ‘victim’ worked under the supervision of the accused’s father.

A local court acquitted a man of rape charges as the ‘victim’ turned hostile on Tuesday. Charges were framed against the accused on October 17 for raping his colleague. The ‘victim’ alleged the accused,Vageesh Gultain,whom she knew since 2007 allegedly raped her on March 16,2011.

On Tuesday,in the court the ‘victim’ retracted her statement and said that the accused had neither proposed marriage nor had he raped her. The ‘victim’,who was working with Gultain as a medical officer at a Primary Health Centre at district Buria,Yamunanagar,in her complaint said that Gultain raped her on the pretext of marriage.

The ‘victim’ worked under the supervision of the accused’s father. In her complaint,she alleged that she was asked by Gultain’s parents to spend time with the’ accused’ as they wanted them to get married.

After completing her training,she went back to her home in Shimla in January 2008. In January 2010,she came back to Chandigarh for further studies and lived in Sector 8.

As per the complainant,Gultain proposed her for marriage in December 2010.

On March 16,2011 Gultain had come to her residence in an inebriated state and allegedly raped her. Later,he assured the ‘victim’ that he would marry her.

However,later he declined following which the victim filed a complaint and a case was registered under Section 376 (Punishment for rape) of the IPC on August 9,2013.
