Woman ‘beaten up’ for dowry

Sandeep who originally belonged to village Jangpura,Patiala district,was married to Jatinder Singh,a resident of Singhpura,Zirakpur,in November last year.

The complainant has alleged that her family had paid Rs 45,000 at the time of the marriage to her in-laws. Only days after the marriage,Jatinder,along with his parents and sister started asking for more money from the victim.

Shamsher Singh,Investigating Officer (IO) of the case,told Newsline,“On Thursday morning,Sandeep was allegedly beaten up by her husband who was demanding money. After he (Jatinder) left,his brother Harvinder along with his parents and sister beat Sandeep. She had to be admitted to the hospital.”
