The winter training school on the theme Challenges and Opportunities in Drug Discovery commenced on Monday at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS),Panjab University (PU).
The training school is being initiated under the UGC networking programme for pharmacy professionals,and around 15 entry-level teachers/PhD students from various colleges and universities from 10 states of the country are participating in the week-long programme,which will conclude on November 23.
Entry-level teachers and PhD students,holding a teaching experience upto 5 years,were selected for the programme,which was inaugurated by director,NIPER,Professor K K Bhutani,who was also the chief guest for the occasion.
Delivering the key note address on drug discovery in India,Professor Bhutani elaborated upon the Indian perspective of drug discovery and development in the real sense.
Professor Emeritus,UIPS and a well recognised academician and researcher in the field of pharmaceutical sciences,Professor Harkishan Singh was the guest of honour during the inaugural session.
Retired senior professor and Emeritus Scientist,department of Chemistry,Bose Institute,Kolkata,Professor Manas Chakrabarty gave a talk on Synthesis of Condensed Heterocycles with Bioactive Potential. It was followed by a lecture by Richa Mittal,Perkin Elmer and a workshop on Instrumentation in Pharmaceutical Analysis.
