WITH CHANDIGARH receiving an additional 90 tonnes of garbage from Shimla, Solan and Baddi, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Delhi Wednesday sought a status report from the Shimla Municipal Corporation asking when their garbage plant would be ready.
Jaiprakash Associates, who manage the garbage plant in Dadumajra, while appearing before NGT, sought tipping charges from all those dumping garbage in their plant, including Shimla and Chandigarh authorities.
“We need tipping charges. We have to run our plant somehow,” said RD Sharma, in-charge of the plant.
The Shimla MC has been asked to submit a report by February 4.
The NGT Shimla bench, in its orders on October 1 last year, had said garbage from Shimla (60 tonnes), Solan (20 tonnes) and Baddi (10 tonnes) would be processed at the Chandigarh MC’s garbage processing plant at Dadumajra daily.
The UT civic body had opposed the NGT orders, saying they were not involved in the decision. However, the officials of the processing plant at Dadumajra, say that they are bound by NGT orders.
