The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Monday launched a WhatsApp number (9872741138) for lodging complaints against temporary encroachment.
The facility was launched during a meeting of the enforcement committee of the municipal corporation held under the chairmanship of Saurabh Joshi. Joshi said now the public can upload photographs related to temporary encroachment like rehries, pharies, unauthorised vehicles, on the number and the problem would be solved within 24 working hours.
The civic body has been at the receiving end for its failure to address the problem of vendors illegally encroaching upon market corridors in front of shops. The problem is prevalent in almost all the markets, especially in Sectors 17, 19, 18, 22, 35 and 34.
The municipal officials decided that anti-encroachment drives will be carried out for 15 days for the removal of temporary encroachment from the municipal land. The committee members were of the view that strict action needs to been taken against encroachers.
Other members who attended the meeting included Satinder Singh, Desh Raj Gupta, Harjinder Kaur, Poonam Sharma and Virender Chaudhary, MC joint commissioner.
MC approves projects of Rs 1.71 crore
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Monday approved various projects of an estimated cost of around Rs 1.71 crore.
The approval for a total of 16 development projects were given during a meeting of roads committee held under the chairmanship of Surinder Bahga and attended by other members.
A budget of Rs 17.45 lakh was approved for the construction of toe wall under the existing railings around various
parks in Sector 28, while Rs 16.45 lakh was allocated for special repair of civil dispensary in Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra. Another budget of Rs 15.69 lakh has been allocated for recarpeting of V-5 road of Sector 45-C and D, while Rs 15.53 lakh has been sanctioned for development of a green belt in Sector 35 B. Another Rs 13.51 lakh has been allocated for widening of V-6 road in Sector 30 A.
The committee allocated funds of Rs 10.61 lakh for providing and fixing tiles along V-6 road near the community centre in Sector 48 C and forest area in Sector 48 A.
An amount of Rs 9.65 lakh has been given for providing and laying conglomerate floor footpath in the green belt of Sector 45 C.
