The wedding season is upon us,and to present trends for a bride-to-be,a jewellery exhibition and fashion show was organised over the weekend. Presented at Taj Chandigarh, the event saw fashion consultant Mahima Shukla team up with make-up expert Komal Gulati to showcase bridal trends for the season. Also displaying their latest designs in wedding jewellery was Tanishq — with an opulent collection inspired by traditional mehendi designs. “This handcrafted collection has geometrical and figural motifs of henna, which is considered to be an auspicious element of an Indian wedding,” said the brand’s jewellery designer Anjali Sikka. Comprising necklaces, bangles, earrings and cuffs, the jewellery boasts of meenakari, polki and kundan along with the use of techniques such as etching and engraving, enameling and filigree. According to Gulati, the bride these days is looking for a “royal connect”. “The Jodha Akbar look is still going strong though the emphasis is on soft make-up and lots of flowers in the hair,” she said. The fashion show also saw models dressed as brides in ensembles by designer Pam Mehta. Though the colour tones were pastel, the embellishments were heavy. Also jackets over lehengas seem to be ruling trend this season,as showcased by Mehta too.
