Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused were involved in similar incidents elsewhere and warned residents to remain vigilant while allowing outsiders access to their homes.
The Mohali police has arrested a wedding choreographer who allegedly stole a family’s car nearly three months after teaching dance at their residence.
According to the police, the accused, Ajay Kumar, a resident of Burail, Sector 45, Chandigarh, had been hired to teach dance for a wedding ceremony at a house in Phase 10, Mohali. During his visits, he allegedly stole the keys of the family’s Innova car. Around three months later, he returned and made off with the vehicle.
Sharing details, DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said that the car owner, Varinder Kumar, a resident of Phase 10, Mohali, lodged a complaint reporting the theft of his Innova car. “Following the complaint, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated,” the DSP said.
During the probe, police arrested Ajay Kumar. Based on his disclosure during interrogation, the police also apprehended his accomplice, Dilpreet Singh, a resident of Ludhiana. The stolen Innova car was recovered from Dilpreet Singh’s possession.
The DSP further stated that investigations revealed Ajay Kumar works as a choreographer at weddings and social functions. “He had taught dance at the complainant’s house about three months ago. He secretly stole the car keys and later committed the theft,” he said.
