The Unique Home a home which caters to 57 destitute girl child in Jalandhar had a surprise visitor on Thursday. Nita Ambani, owner of IPL team Mumbai Indians and wife of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, visited the home to meet Parkash Kaur the mother of 57 daughters.
I met Parkash Kaur during the Real Heroes Award function organised by CNN IBN in Mumbai. She told me that these 57 girls were not adopted, but her daughters. This touched me and I promised her that I will visit her soon, said Ambani. She added: After coming here,I am not only touched but feel humble by the simplicity and genuineness of Parkash Kaur, who runs this home with the help of philanthropists in India and abroad.
The Unique Home has two set ups. While the Model House, which was original home, was started in 1991,a bigger place was under construction in Badshapur village on Nakodar Road. Ambani, who visited both the homes, spent around five hours with the 57 girls all aged between a few months to 19-20 years who were abandoned by their parents but brought up by Parkash. Her daughters are quite confident and believe in themselves. This is what Parkash Kaurji has been teaching them, said Ambani, who participated in a dandia dance with the girls and Parkash.
During her interaction with the children, she was asked about Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan,Aamir Khan,Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapur. Ambani presented them with toys and also promised to take them for an IPL match.
She told the children,I wanted to pursue a career in dance and my parents allowed me follow my passion. At one such performance,my father-in-law Dhirubhai Ambani saw me. Following this,he asked for my hand for Mukesh. Even after being the first bahu of the biggest industrial family, her in-laws allowed her to teach. I used to work as a teacher for Rs 800 per month, she added.
While Nita presented Parkash Kaur with a Blackberry phone Parkash till now did not own a cellphone Nita received a pink dupatta and a shawl from the girls.
