Voter list to be published tomorrow,poll chief appeals to people to enrol

Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Kusumjit Sidhu on Saturday appealed to the public in general and youth in particular to get enrolled as a voter after the final publication of voter list on the January 2.

Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Kusumjit Sidhu on Saturday appealed to the public in general and youth in particular to get enrolled as a voter after the final publication of voter list on the January 2. Those attaining the age of 18 years and above on January 1,2012 can get themselves registered as voters between January 2 and January 4.

In a statement issued here,she said that the total population of Punjab,as per the Census 2011,is,2,77,04,236. During the period of summary revision,7,33,832 new applications were received for being entered as voters and of these,7,23,424 were accepted. After taking into account,newly accepted applications,deletions,and modifications,the total electorate strength at present is 1,74,33,332.

The final voter list is to be published throughout the state on January 2 and those eligible persons whose name is not present in the voter list will be entitled to get themselves entered as voter after the publication of the list. They may contact their local booth level officer,or the office of the Electoral Registration Officer,under whose jurisdiction their area of residence falls. She also said that BLOs have been appointed by the departments of education,medical as well as technical education in the educational institutions as per the guidelines of the EC ,ensuring the enrollment of students as voters. The hostlers,she said,could also get themselves enrolled as voters in that district only through their educational institutions. For resolving the poll-related grievances,or queries from voters,a Complaint-cum-Call Centre has been set up in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Toll-free number 1950 has been obtained. The centre have become operational 24 x 7.

Similarly,Help Lines have been set up at all district headquarters and the offices of the returning officers,she added.
