Agitated over long power cuts and undeclared shut downs,villagers gheraoed Khudda Power House on Ambala-Dehradun NH 72 on Tuesday. The executive engineer and other officers they were not allowed to enter the office and were beaten up.
People demanded power supply according to the schedule announced by Uttar Bijli Vitran Nigam. They alleged that against the eight hours supply as per schedule,the villagers were supplied power only for four hours.
However,the villagers were pacified by the officers who said the supply would be made as per the schedule. They,however,told the protesters that they were not getting power supply from the grid as three of the four power houses were closed. Officers added that efforts were being made by the Nigam to get the supply from available sources.
On Tuesday night,residents of Sundernagar and surrounding areas laid blockade on the Delhi-Amritsar NH,which continued for about half-an-hour. Protesters demanded that their areas be attached to the urban feeder. They protested that the Nigam authorities had continued to supply power to their areas from the rural feeder where the supply was made for only eight hours against the urban feeder which supplied power for 20 hours.
