The Haryana Police will conduct a month-long programme to raise awareness about cybersecurity, a senior official said. The schedule, designed to educate, inform and protect individuals and businesses from potential cyber threats, has been prepared.
“Our programme is meticulously crafted to cater to a diverse audience — from individual internet users to businesses — to ensure a safer online environment for all,” said Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur.
“Cyber threats don’t discriminate. They affect individuals and businesses alike. This October, people should arm themselves with knowledge and best practices to stay a step ahead. With a blend of interactive sessions, practical demos, real-world stories, and expert insights, Cybersecurity Awareness Month promises to be a beacon for a safer digital future,” the DGP added.
As per the schedule, week 1 — from October 1 till October 7 — shall be observed as Introduction to Cybersecurity Awareness. “It will begin with an enlightening introduction to cybersecurity awareness, followed by a dive into its significance, underscored by recent breach statistics. Emphasis on strong, unique passwords will be a highlight, along with the merits of password managers,” as per the schedule.
The second week (October 8-14) will be dedicated to unravelling the mysteries of malware, phishing, and the world of online threats. “From understanding viruses to trojans and more, to recognising and reporting phishing attempts, participants will be equipped with the tools to navigate the online world safely. The benefits of VPNs, safe URLs and ad-blockers will be discussed in detail,” the schedule reads.
The third week (October 15-21) will deal with personal and home security. The fourth week (October 22-28) will be dedicated to business and work security: Participants will delve deep into the best practices at work, understanding BYOD policies, recognising insider threats, secure file sharing and ensuring security while working remotely.
From October 29-31, participants will shared a glimpse into emerging cyber threats and the role of AI in cybersecurity. The month will conclude with a closing ceremony, encapsulating the knowledge acquired and emphasising the importance of continuous cybersecurity awareness, the schedule mentions.
