The Chandigarh Administration has removed Ajay Kumar,manager of Old Age Home at Sector 15,after noting his failure to perform his duties. This was informed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the resumed hearing of a Public Interest Litigation arising out of a suo motu notice taken by Justice Surya Kant on a letter written by Advocate Tanu Bedi highlighting the pitiable condition of Old Age Home.
Following the complaint,the High Court had issued notices to the Chandigarh Administration. Senior standing counsel for UT Administration,Sanjay Kaushal had personally visited the Old Age Home and had given a scathing report which highlighted the rude conduct of Ajay Kumar. The Administration had then issued showcause notice to Ajay Kumar asking him to explain as to why he should not be removed from office. Taking stock of the report submitted by Kaushal,the High Court had given one weeks time to the Administration to take necessary action.
The Administration apprised the High Court that Ajay Kumar has been removed and that a new manager will be appointed soon. Adjourning the PIL,a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Mahesh Grover asked Advocate Tanu Bedi to visit the Old Age Home after the appointment of the new manager and submit another
Kumar had personally appeared before a committee constituted by the Chandigarh Administration to look into his conduct. The Administration ruled that Kumar has failed to perform his duties diligently and sincerely.
