UT plans essay contest to build smart city dream

The topic for the essay will be ‘Chandigarh of my dreams’. The competition is open to all city residents, and essays can be in English, Hindi or Punjabi.

In order to engage a large number of residents, especially students, in the smart city mission, the UT Administration has decided to start an essay competition from October 1.

The topic for the essay will be ‘Chandigarh of my dreams’. The competition is open to all city residents, and essays can be in English, Hindi or Punjabi.

Nodal officer for the smart city mission, Danish Ashraf, said, “The purpose of this competition is to invite healthy participation from students who will apply their young minds while suggesting ideas for the smart city project. We have also decided to distribute around two lakh performas to students, which will be analysed by committees that will be constituted.”

Ashraf said that residents could submit their essays on the web portal mygov.in, or in written at their respective SDM offices. He added that the best write-ups would win prizes.

The administration will also start another city-related discussion on mygov.in from October 1. Ideas have been invited from residents on education and health to ensure global standards. Residents can give their opinions on the types of health and educational facilities required in the city.

Earlier, the administration had invited suggestions on efficient parking system, sanitation and cleanliness, urban mobility, reforms in power and water supply, and other ideas to make the city smart.
