The Social Welfare Department,Chandigarh Administration has invited applications from individuals and institutions for the Vayoshrestha Samman to be given on the occasion of International Day of the Elderly to be celebrated on October 1. The names have been sought by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that has instituted 10 categories and two nominations have to be sent under each category. The last date for applying is June 19.
The awards include the Institution Award for Knowledge for institutions which are generating and spreading knowledge in the field of ageing,the Institution Award for Service for the institutions which are providing outstanding services to the elderly,the Centenarian Award for the individuals who are over 90 years of age and still working and contributing to the society,the Best Mother Award for mothers who have fought against all odds so that their children may fulfill their dream,and the Courage and Bravery Award,which will be given to older people who have displayed extraordinary courage in difficult situations.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to the senior citizens who have worked in the field of ageing and made significant contributions in the field. The Creative Art Award is for the winners of national or international acclaim for their contribution to literature,painting,theatre,feature films and who are continued to be appreciated by society despite their advancing age and their efforts to train younger persons in the art.
The Best Panchayat Award will be given to those having done pioneering work for the cause of the older person at Panchayat Level. The Sportsperson Award will be given to the winners of national and international championships during a young age who continued to contribute to the improvement of younger sportspersons. The Economic Leadership Award will be for the persons who have contributed to economic and entrepreneurial development and have made a continued contribution to improve standards in the industry.
