A hike in the fare of radio autos and taxies operating in Tricity has been agreed upon by the Chandigarh Administration. A proposal for the same was mooted between the officials of the State Transport Authority (STA) and the Advisor to the Chandigarh Administration. Several representations received from the owners of the radio autos and taxies have been the basis for the increase in fare.
The quantum of the hike is yet to be decided upon by the Administration. Based on the representations received,we have made a proposal to the Advisor regarding hike in fare of these vehicles. The quantum of hike will be decided by authorities in the coming days, said Balbir Singh Dhol,Secretary,STA.
While the owners of the radio autos and taxies have been making similar demands for the last three years, they are quoting their unfeasible businesses as the main reason behind making frequent representations.
The demand made by owners of the radio autos includes a Rs 50 hike in the fare for the first 3 kilometres,a hike of Rs 12 for every subsequent kilometre and waiting charges of Rs 60 per hour.
The demands also include a hike of Rs 5 in the fare of radio taxies. The existing fare is Rs 20 per kilometre.
We have been making several representations regarding a hike in fare of radio autos and taxies for the past three years. While the rate of most commodities like petrol and LPG have gone up,our business has been suffering, said one of the radio taxi owners.
