Chandigarh’s recognition reflects its push towards accelerated EV adoption, expansion of charging infrastructure and implementation of citizen-centric policies, reinforcing its position as a model city for electric mobility in the country.
The Chandigarh Administration has won the Gold Award for “Best Union Territory for EV Overall” at the Motoring World Green Mobility Awards 2025, a national recognition of its efforts to build a clean and future-ready urban mobility ecosystem.
The award was presented in New Delhi by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and was received by the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), the nodal agency for renewable energy and electric vehicle promotion, on behalf of the administration. CREST chief executive officer Navneet Srivastava and project director Sukhwinder Abrol were present at the ceremony.
Instituted by Motoring World magazine of the Delhi Press Group in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the awards recognise measurable progress in sustainable mobility across the country, covering policy, infrastructure, technology and environmental impact.
According to the organisers, the selection followed a multi-stage evaluation process based on verified government data, RTI responses, official digital portals and public research, under the supervision of a jury comprising experts in sustainability, electric mobility, urban planning and public policy. The evaluation framework was developed in consultation with knowledge partners, including the Council for Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and TERI School of Advanced Studies.
Speaking at the event, Gadkari underscored the importance of alternative fuels and electric mobility, stating that emerging technologies could soon position India as a net exporter of energy.
The awards ceremony was held on December 16 at Travancore Palace, New Delhi, and saw several states and Union Territories being recognised across categories such as EV charging tariffs, charging infrastructure, manufacturing ecosystem and EV fleet adoption.
