Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil is likely to give a miss to the At Home function on Republic Day. Patil, who has the additional charge of Governor of Rajasthan,is expected to be there instead of hosting dignitaries of Punjab and Chandigarh at Punjab Raj Bhawan. Instead,UT Adviser K K Sharma is likely to play host.
Patil who divides his time between Chandigarh and Rajasthan,is speculated not to host At Home owing to elections in Punjab and the leaders are expected to be busy with campaigning. With Punjab going to polls on January 30,two days will be left after Republic Day before campaigning comes to an end.
A senior official of the Administration said that it was the Adviser who unfurls the flag at Parade Ground on Republic Day and the Administrator is not part of the function. He added that since Patil is the Governor of two states,he could hold the At Home at any one of the two states.
The Republic Day function at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 is addressed by the Adviser and the At Home is hosted by the Administrator. The Adviser, customarily holds a tea party after the flag hoisting ceremony on Republic Day and Independence Day.
Patil has completed two years as Punjab Governor and UT Administrator. In his tenure, the city has not seen any major project taking off. Instead the mega projects that were proposed during the tenure of his predecessor Gen S F Rodrigues (Retd) and created much controversy were scrapped.
