Promised 40 days, reached US in 5 months: The dunki route travails of Haryana man
Paid Rs 40 lakh to the travel agent, deported back in 20 days

(Express Photo) Rs 40 lakh and 40 days — that is what the travel agent promised to facilitate this Haryana man’s travel to the US. But it took the 23-year-old five months to reach the US and he was deported back in 20 days.
“We were hoping to reach the US during the previous regime in America but the government changed by the time we reached there, which deported us back to India,” said Mandeep Singh, a resident of Shyo Majra of Kaithal district in Haryana.
A graduate, he began his journey to the US on September 18, 2024, and travelled through 10 countries to reach his destination through dunki route. From Mumbai, he went through Guyana, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico before crossing the USA border on January 24. However, the US border police arrested him and put him in a detention centre.
