For the last three days, industrial clusters in Ludhiana 1 and Ludhiana 3 areas have been reeling under unscheduled power cuts . The situation is,however, different in Ludhiana 2,where more than 60 per cent of the industry is operating from residential areas named as mixed land use areas in the master plan.
These areas,as per the master plan, are Jammu Colony,Dashmesh Nagar,Millerganj,ITI road,Janta Nagar and other areas.
When the rest of the city was facing a four-hour cut, these areas had only a three- hour blackout. Now,their cuts have been increased to four hours against more than six hours in other parts of the city.
The industrial associations of Ludhiana 2 area had met PSEB Chairman H S Brar and after discussion, the power cuts,as desired by them, were imposed from 7 am to 9 pm and later from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm. However, for the last three days, the cuts have been increased and the new schedule is from noon to 2 pm.
D S Chawla, president of the United Cycle Parts and Manufacturers Association, said, We were given a fixed schedule of power cuts for one month by the PSEB and the earlier schedule was applicable till April 30. But the board has increased the cuts without intimation and we have raised our protest.
The timings were given by associations in a way that their units do not face much inconvenience. Reason: the factories start at 9 am and in the afternoon, they have a one-hour lunch break from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.
Chawla said,Our areas have been included in the master plan as mixed land use and we are allowed to continue operations here. Hence, unscheduled cuts will not be tolerated at any cost. Many other conditions of the master plan have not been implemented till date and for that,we have lodged our protest with Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari. A committee has been constituted by the DC for early implementation of the master plan rules.
In the colonies mentioned, the residents also enjoy organised cuts. .
