Panchkula police has said that under its Operation Clean Up, it has arrested 89 accused in 64 separate cases, including several notorious and “most wanted” offenders.

Police officials said the coordinated action not only led to key arrests but also helped prevent several potential crimes through timely intervention.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Manpreet Singh Sudan said that the ACP Crime, along with in-charges of all crime units and their teams, maintained continuous field presence and focused on curbing theft, vehicle lifting, illegal liquor supply, snatching, robbery, dacoity, arms trafficking and narcotics. He added that officers often faced direct resistance from criminals but acted with courage and restraint to overpower them.

During the month-long drive, police recovered a significant haul of illegal arms, including five country-made pistols, four other pistols, one revolver, sixteen live cartridges and a knife. These weapons were intended for use in planned criminal activities, many of which were thwarted due to heightened vigilance, a police official said.

The operation also resulted in major drug seizures, with police recovering 988 grams of charas, 410 grams of heroin, 6.675 kilograms of poppy husk and 1.342 kilograms of opium. According to investigators, the consignment was meant for distribution within the district and neighbouring states but was intercepted before it could reach the market.

In addition, several stolen vehicles were recovered, including one auto-rickshaw, four e-rickshaws, three cars, one tractor and a motorcycle. The police also seized Rs 5.44 lakh in cash, 462 bottles of liquor, household items worth several lakhs, jewellery valued at around Rs 8 lakh and five mobile phones. The process of identifying the recovered items and returning them to the rightful owners has already begun, police said.

Police Commissioner Shivas Kaviraj, meanwhile, has directed all the crime units in the district to continue strict action against offenders. He further instructed all units and station teams to intensify efforts under Operation Hotspot Domination by targeting areas linked to gambling, drug abuse and other illegal activities, with the aim of dismantling criminal networks before they gain ground.
