The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) on Thursday called an emergency meeting of its executive to discuss the University Business School (UBS) case,in which, the UT Police have booked UBS chairperson A K Vashisht and Professor Dinesh Gupta following a sexual harassment complaint from assistant professor Neha Gulati.
PUTA has now written to PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover demanding that the sexual harassment committee complete its investigation within three days and submit a report to the V-C office, who should then forward it to the UT Police.
The Association also formed a subcommittee that will now hear both sides with an aim to resolve the matter. Talking to Chandigarh Newsline,PUTA president Mohammed Khalid said: A meeting was called at 9 am that ended at 11 am. It was largely attended by the teachers and we unanimously decided to write a letter. It is very unfortunate incident and we want to resolve it at the earliest.
On the other hand, expressing solidarity with UBS chairperson and Prof Dinesh Gupta,as many as 20 faculty members of the department had on May 22 written to the V-C in favour of the two professors.
While the sexual harassment committees second meeting is scheduled for May 24,it had already recorded the complainants statements on May 14.
