Alumnus of the University Business School (UBS),Panjab University (PU),and State Bank of India (SBI) chairman Pratip Chaudhuri on Thursday donated Rs 1 crore to his alma mater.
UBS chairperson A K Vashist,while speaking about his department,said that the department had made a proposal to set up an independent campus in Sector 25 to establish the identity of the department. The donation is likely to used to construct a state-of-the-art auditorium PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover had once proposed the setting up of an independent UBS campus. The V-C provided us the direction and the department is working on it, said Vashist.
Divulging details,Chaudhuri told UBS faculty and students,Under the corporate social responsibility,SBI spends one per cent of its net profit for the welfare of society,every year. Once UBS starts building its new campus,SBI will contribute its share.
Motivating students,Chaudhuri added that all those who were beneficiaries of this education system must return it to the society. Never forget your alma mater and always try to help it, he appealed to the students.
Prof Grover,while hailing the gesture of the PU alumnus,said that it was a good start for UBS,as the Punjab government was already commemorating 150 years of higher education.
Later,Chaudhuri also handed over keys of a school bus to the secretary of Society for Rehabilitation of Mentally Challenged,Chandigarh,and donated ambulances to Rev Fr L D Phonce of Don Bosco Navjeevan Society,Chandigarh,and Dr Jai Dev,Chairman of Rotary Cancer Detection and Welfare Society,Ambala.
