Two-day ‘Waste to Wow’ exhibition begins at Rose Garden
The exhibition has been organised by Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) under Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM). Many groups working under the theme 'Waste to Wow' are taking part in the exhibition. They turn the waste material into something useful.
The groups have set up around a dozen stalls wherein they have displayed different handmade and recycled products for sale.

To empower women Self Help Groups (SHG) from weaker sections of the society and help them to achieve bigger goals, a two-day exhibition on ‘Waste to Wow’ commenced in Rose Garden, Ludhiana, Saturday.
The exhibition has been organised by Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) under Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM). Many groups working under the theme ‘Waste to Wow’ are taking part in the exhibition. They turn the waste material into something useful.
The exhibition was inaugurated by MC commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal on Saturday and will remain open from 11 am to 7pm.
The groups have set up around a dozen stalls wherein they have displayed different handmade and recycled products for sale. The products include decorative material, cloths, decorative furniture items, cloth bags, artificial jewellery, traditional food items etc. Cloth bags are also being distributed among the visitors with an aim to discourage them from using banned plastic carry bags.
Working to promote ‘Swachhta’, a number of NGOs have also established stalls for displaying products made out of waste material. A group working to make compost out of wet waste is also participating in the exhibition. MC officials have been appealing the residents to segregate wet and dry waste in their households and make compost out of the wet waste.
Aggarwal stated that the civic body has also been helping the SHGs to avail financial assistance from the government under NULM. Appreciating the efforts being put in by the groups especially to recycle the waste products, Dr Aggarwal stated that these exhibitions are organised by MC for giving the groups a chance to improve the public outreach.
MC officials stated that any other group of residents from weaker sections of the society, who want to form SHGs and avail benefits under NULM, can contact the MC officials in room number 74 of MC Zone-A office.
