The special CBI court of Rakesh Kumar Yadav,on Tuesday remanded a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of BSNL and a junior telecom officer (JTO) to a day-long custody after they were caught red-handed accepting bribe from one of the employees of a private firm to overlook the damages done to the cable of the BSNL during the laying of optical cables by the company in Sonepat.
The CBI court remanded the SDO,BSNL Karnal,Rajat Garg and the JTO,Harsh Kumar,to a day-long custody after they were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 for not taking any action on the damage done to the cable work of the BSNL. The complaint was moved by one of the employees of the private company that had been carrying out the cable laying work at Sonepat during which it damaged the cable of the BSNL. The BSNL officers have asked the company to pay for the damage.
The CBI had moved for the remand of 3-days pleading that there was another employee who had also sought bribe but he is absconding in the case. The CBI had sought the remand for the arrest of accused in the case. However the special CBI court Tuesday turned the plea for the three-day remand of the accused and allowed it only for one day.
Counsel for the accused,Abhishek Singh,opposed the CBI remand in the case stating that the investigating agency has already taken the disclosure statements of the accused in the case. The CBI in its report to the court disclosed that the accused employees had approached one of the employees of the private firm laying cables in Sonepat,Abhishek Singh,asking for the bribe of Rs 30,000.
Following this,the accused employees had also called him and had agreed on the payment of bribe of Rs 15,000. Based on the complaint of the private company,CBI officials laid a trap at Noor Mahal chowk in Karnal and arrested the duo.
