Kurali police arrested two bike-borne men on Thursday and recovered a countrymade pistol and live cartridge from their possession. One of the accused is a student at a private college in Ghruan. Both the accused were produced in a local court and sent to judicial custody.
Kurali police say that the accused Hem Raj and Sunil are both residents of Himachal Pradesh. Hem Raj is a student of a private college in Ghruan while Sunil was known to him.
The accused were arrested while on their way to Ropar on their bike. Sunil was returning after his production in Kharar court regarding an attempt to murder case. He was also booked in an attempt to murder case in Ropar district. Kurali Station House Officer (SHO) Kailash Bahadur said that during interrogation, Sunil said that he was involved in gang wars in the past and booked in two cases of attempt to murder and Arms Act. He added that Sunil also told them that he bought the pistol from one Vipin, a Haryana resident.
“We booked both the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act, since Sunil was involved in many clashes and has a crime history, he might be carrying the illegal weapon with him, but we are yet to find more details which emerged from his interrogation. He was working for two or three gangs which are involved in highway robberies,” the SHO said.
The SHO also added that a routine naka was set up at the main Kharar-Kurali road when the accused were coming towards Ropar. He added that Assistant Sub-Inspector Sukchain Singh’s team stopped both the accused and, after checking, found that they were carrying illegal weapons.
