Actor Bipasha Basu on her newly launched accessory line and making style accessible to everyone.

As a style-conscious teen and then an upcoming model,Bipasha Basu remembers saving up to buy accessories and clothes. “I remember always shopping on a budget back then,and wearing the same thing multiple times. I know the importance of wanting to look good,yet wanting to be able to buy things at an affordable rate,” says the actor,who recently took her love for fashion one step further and donned the mantle of creative director at http://www.thetrunklabel.com,a website selling bags,shoes and jewellery,all especially curated by Basu.

A self-confessed fitness,fashion and food aficionado,Basu says she has always wanted to get involved in an endeavour that helped her share her style ideas and jumped at the chance to collaborate with The Label Corp,parent company of The Trunk Label. “I knew I had to take baby steps and get involved in something that genuinely interested me and wasn’t just a PR exercise,” she says,adding that the idea of an accessories label appealed because she understands the importance of accessorising. “A fun neckpiece or trendy shoes can totally make an outfit. And since this is an online venture it reaches more people and is accessible to everybody,” she says.

Affordability is a key factor for Basu. “The kind of fashion statement you make is dependent on your budget. Hence,everything on the website is very fashionable,yet easy on the pocket,” she says. And while Basu may not be involved with the actual designing of each item,she’s very particular about the curatorial aspect. “My personal style of accessorising depends largely on my mood,” says Basu.

With her latest fitness DVD releasing next month,future plans of launching a prêt clothesline someday — “that’ll require a lot of time and attention” — and maybe dabbling in the restaurant business,Basu also hopes to keep shaking things up,much like her accessories collection.
