At 43.8°C, Tricity records hottest day of the season

The Tricity witnessed an intense heatwave on Monday, with the temperatures climbing up to 43.8°C — five degree Celsius above the seasonal average.

This marks the first official heatwave of the month, as defined by meteorological standards, which classify such conditions when the maximum temperature rises 4.5°C to 6.4°C above normal.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature also remained elevated at 28°C, two degrees above normal, leaving little respite even during the early morning hours.

By afternoon, the streets of Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali were largely deserted as residents avoided venturing out in the oppressive heat.

According to the weather department, the intense heat is expected to persist.
