Rich tributes were paid to the 282 unsung heroes of the freedom struggle who died of asphyxia at Kallianawala Khooh (well) on August 1,1857,at border town of Ajnala. The role played by the patriots was recalled at a seminar and during a candle light march taken out to mark the occasion. The speakers,including former National Conference MP from Jammu and Kashmir,AR Shaheen, expressed concern over the poor condition of the site where the martyrs died. They demanded that the state government should take immediate steps to preserve the building.
