FOR THE third consecutive day on Thursday, trains and flights continued to be affected in Chandigarh due to the smoggy weather in the northern region. The situation is expected to continue till there is some change in the weather.
A Shatabdi train (12045) New Delhi-Chandigarh which departed late on Wednesday evening from New Delhi was delayed by five hours, reaching Chandigarh around 4 am on Thursday morning.
According to Northern Railway, over 25 trains were delayed in the Ambala division on Thursday. Morning Shatabdis, operating between Chandigarh-Delhi-Chandigarh, were delayed by up to three hours and failed to reach their destinations at the scheduled time.
“The trains are running late due to smog in Delhi and other parts of the northern states. On Thursday as well several trains were delayed… we don’t see any change in the coming days. The situation will improve only if the smoggy weather ends,” said a railway official.
For the last three days, there has been a massive disruption of rail and air traffic in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) officials on Thursday said six flights were delayed due to the prevailing weather conditions. CHIAL PRO Deepesh Joshi said out of the six flights, four were from Delhi (Go Air, Jet Airways, Vistara and Spicejet) and two more flights arrived from Sharjah (Air India) and Srinagar (SpiceJet).
He said all fights from Chandigarh-Delhi, which were cancelled due to the closure of the runway in Delhi from November 7-9, have been restored except an Air India flight to Delhi.
