The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) observed May Day at Sector 17 to pay homage to the martyrs of Chicago.
Addressing the workers,INTUC President Kulbir Singh said the demands of the union included regulation of services of daily wages which had been pending for the past 20 to 25 years,EPF/CPF and medical facilities to be provided to daily wage labourers and service to family members on the demise of workers.

The Chandigarh-Punjab Union of Journalists (CPUJ) today organised a rally at Sector 17 Plaza to mark May Day,and to recall the sacrifices of people who their lives for working-class people. A large number of journalists formed a human chain to press their demands. CPUJ President Vinod Kohli expressed concern over the delay in implementation of Justice Majithia Wage Board Report for journalists. He urged media organisations to implement the wage-board report at the earliest,as delay would raise doubts in the minds of newspaper employees,because inflation had increased manifolds. Kohli demanded inclusion of the electronic media in the purview of the Press Council by renaming it as the Media Council. This he said would help address issues related to the electronic media.
