Top seed Dahiya impresses,Bajwa made to work hard for victory
Vikrant Dahiya and Paramveer Singh Bajwa,top and the second seed,registered contrasting victories in their boy's Under-16 singles matches of the CLTA-AITA Talent Series tennis tournament,at the CLTA Complex in Sector 10.
Vikrant Dahiya and Paramveer Singh Bajwa,top and the second seed,registered contrasting victories in their boy’s Under-16 singles matches of the CLTA-AITA Talent Series tennis tournament,at the CLTA Complex in Sector 10 on Monday. While Dahiya breezed past Raunaq Singh Marwaha 6-2,6-1,Paramveer was made to work hard by Harjasleen Singh but managed to beat him 6-3,7-5 in an exciting encounter.
Dahiya,who belongs to Haryana,looked in good touch and played some superb shots from the baseline. Marwaha,on the other hand,tried hard to keep his opponent at bay,but could never match the top seed’s power and exquisite ball placement. After easily winning the first set 6-2,Dahiya continued to press hard and made short work of Marwaha in the second set also and won 6-1 to enter the next round.
CLTA trainee,Paramveer,meanwhile looked rusty in the first set and failed to dominate Harjasleen. The unforced errors that he committed put more pressure on him. Harjasleen did not let the higher seeded player walk away with the match. Instead,he fought hard,but pressure got the better of him and he lost the first set 3-6.
He,however,was more persistent in the second set and matched Bajwa shot for shot. Paramveer kept his nerves in the pressure boil situation and managed to win the second set 7-5 to saunter ahead.
Meanwhile,in one of the most exciting matches of the day,Sagar Bains came from behind to beat Kabir Manrai 4-6,6-1,6-2. After losing the first set 4-6,Bains made a great comeback and won the next two sets in succession to get the better of Kabir. Also,Sabrang Sandal huffed and puffed his way to a hard-fought 6-2,4-6,6-0 victory over Ramanjot Singh.
Despite losing the first set,Ramanjot did not lose focus and played some intelligent shots to come back into the match by winning the second set. However,he failed to win even a single game in the final set and lost 6-0.
Sachit Malhotra made a disappointing exit with 4-6,6-3,6-2 loss to Sultan S Atwal. Sachit failed to keep the momentum going after winning the first set and lost the next two sets in succession to make a shock exit from the tournament.
Param Pun made it to the next round by easily beating Rohit Kumar 6-4,6-2.
In the girl’s Under-16 category,Charvi Saxena,Prinkle Singh and Harsimran entered the next round after winning their first round matches.
Charvi made short work of Tanya Batra 6-3,6-2 while Prinkle completely balboozled Sandeep Kaur and did not concede even a single game to win 6-0,6-0. Harsimran Kaur got bye into the next round.
Karishma Mehta also made it to the next round by getting the better of Aastha Malhotra 6-1,6-4.
