Top seed Arpit stretched by Sahil,women seeds get byes

Despite winning the first set,6-1,the top seed hardly looked convincing.

Top seed Arpit Sharma of Rajasthan huffed and puffed before securing a hard-fought 6-1,5-7,6-4 win over qualifier Sahil Sachdeva in the first round of the main draw in the men’s category of the HTA-AITA Rs 1.5 lakh prize money tennis tournament held at Harvest Tennis Academy in Jassowal,Ludhiana,on Monday.

Despite winning the first set,6-1,the top seed hardly looked convincing. Sahil capitalised on Arpit’s shortcomings and won the second set 5-7. It was in the final set that Arpit showed his class and played some stunning shots to win 6-4,and enter the next round.

Second seed Yash Deshpande cruised to an easy 6-2,6-4 win over lucky loser Ranjeet Singh. Third seed Siddhesh Khade of Maharashtra lost just one game as he outclassed Rahul Seth,6-1,6-0. Fourth seed Bharat Bhardwaj of Haryana defeated Maninder Singh of Haryana,6-1,6-4,while fifth seed Keneisezot Whourie of National Tennis Academy prevailed over Ankit Sachdeva,5-7,6-3,6-2,in an exciting encounter. However,seventh seed Nishant Ankar Rebello was beaten 6-0,6-2 by qualifier Gurinder Singh.

In the women’s section,top seed Sanya Madan of Uttar Pradesh got bye into the next round. Second seed Renu Sharma of National Tennis Academy also got bye into the next round. Third seed Shehnaz Singh of Delhi,fourth seed Vineeta Singh of Delhi,fifth seed Simran Wadhwa of Delhi also got byes into the next round. Sixth seed Kirandeep Kotade of Gujarat defeated Joshini Tuli of Delhi,6-3,6-4,to move to the next round.
