Chandigarh batsmen continued to make merry on the third day of the Punjab Inter-State cricket tournament final match against Patiala being played for Katoch Shield Trophy at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium,as they amassed 456 runs for the loss of six wickets in 153 overs at the close of play in reply to Patiala's first innings total of 341 runs.

With this,Chandigarh has got the first innings lead of 115 runs. For Chandigarh Simrat Bawa and Amit Parashar emerged as the heroes. While Bawa made 102 runs,Amit Parashar was unbeaten on 111 runs.

Resuming from their overnight score of 191 for 2,Chandigarh batsmen continued to grind the Patiala attack. Overnight batsmen Simrat Bawa and Gurkirat Walia continued to play steadily to take the total to 234 before Simrat Bawa was trapped in front by left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh. He completed a patient century off 237 balls to put Chandigarh in the driver’s seat. Bawa and Walia were involved in a 59-run stand for the third wicket. Bawa’s ouster brought Parashar to the crease. Known for his exquisite and attacking shots,Parashar played a watchful innings to steady the Chandigarh innings. Both Walia and Parashar added 94 runs for the fourth wicket. Patiala’s Rajwinder bowled a superb delivery to remove Walia for 59 runs. Meanwhile,Parashar continued to hold the fort from one end and,in the company of Bipul Sharma,raised a 103-run partnership for the sixth-wicket before Bipul stepped out to drive a Rajwinder Singh delivery but was neatly stumped by Kamalpreet after a quick-fire knock of 56 runs. Parashar went on to complete his unbeaten hundred (111) off 212 balls. At close of play,Parashar (111 no) and Gaurav Gambhir (3 no) were batting. For Patiala,Rajwinder Singh (3 for 111) was the main wicket taker. With a day left in the match,and 115 runs as first innings lead for Chandigarh,Patiala bowlers would aim to bowl the visitors out as soon as possible and chase down the target to win the match.
