The Festive Fare
Going by the number of food festivals on offer,its best to shelf diet plans at least till next year. Heres where and what you can dig into. Taj Chandigarh is rolling out a 10-day Christmas plan starting on December 21. While one can pick up Christmas cakes and cookies from the Cake Shop in Cafe 17,a champagne brunch is also on the menu. The highlights of the cake shop include Yule Logs,Christmas cakes,Chocolate Santa,Chocolate Bunnies and turkey. Prices start at Rs 700. On Christmas eve,there will be live carol singing in the cafe,along with a special Christmas-eve dinner buffet featuring imported turkey and puddings. The buffet is priced at Rs 1,500 (excluding taxes) per person.
Elsewhere in Sector 26,Smoke House Deli is celebrating Christmas by rolling out menus featuring signature dishes put together by executive chef Shamsul Wahid such as Tenderloin Bagel and their lip-smacking Tiramisu. There will be retro music to make one jive through the evening. Also readying up for Christmas week is Kava restaurant in Sector 26. Christmas buntings are already up and Santa will make his arrival soon. We plan to offer gifts to diners, informs a representative. Ushering in the spirit,there will be carol singing on December 24-25,and a special lunch buffet on the Christmas eve and Sunday brunch on Christmas Day. There are also prizes to be won.
Meanwhile,Christmas celebrations at Zazen,Panchkula,will include a brunch spread of Indian,Oriental and European cuisines. One can dig into eight types of desserts and salads for Rs 699 and Rs 999 (plus taxes),respectively. The Christmas brunch also packs in entertainment with a separate kids corner,Bollywood karaoke for all and Santa distributing gifts.

If you are looking for Christmas treats,head to Oven Fresh in Sector 35. You can lay your hands on the drenched-in-chocolate Yule Log or the best-to-gift Rock Chocolates. When it comes to traditional cakes,we follow the old-world recipes. The fruits and nuts were soaked in rum two months ago, points out the owner,Priya Garg. Apart from the snowmen and brownies,a new addition this year are the mousse cakes with liqueur flavours. Prices start at Rs 210 for a 220-gm package.
Christmas is incomplete without a gingerbread house. Each season,Nikhil Mittal of Nik Bakers makes special effort in getting the house ready. Demand for Christmas-themed parties has doubled, he says. The gingerbread house costs Rs 1,500 while chocolates and cookies are priced at Rs 45 and Rs 65,respectively.
