The three-member commission, probing the conceptualisation and allotment of mega projects in Chandigarh,is expected to be in the city and question a few present and former officials of the Chandigarh Administration, twice in the coming fortnight. The commission was appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, after the Chandigarh Administration failed to provide satisfactory replies to the special audit of the projects conducted by the Central government last year.

Former senior IAS officer D R Bhalla, who is the consultant of Arun Ramanathan, another former senior IAS officer, now heading the three member commission,is expected in the city from June 8 to 11. They will be here again on June 15 and stay till June 17. The commission, last month had questioned a number of former and present Chandigarh Administration officials, who remained associated with these mega projects at various stages.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation has already questioned the four suspects in the preliminary inquiry registered by CBI regarding the conceptualisation and allotment of two mega projects — Amusement-cum-Theme Park and Filmcity in Chandigarh.

The suspects include former advisor Lalit Sharma, former home secretary Krishnamohan, former finance secretary S K Sandhu and former director (Tourism) Vivek Atray. All the four have been questioned separately by the CBI officials.

Sources disclosed that while the replies given by Lalit Sharma,Vivek Atray and S K Sandhu were satisfactory to some extent, the CBI doesn’t appear too satisfied with the replies submitted by Krishnamohan.

Krishnamohan, according to information, had been called thrice to the CBI office,Sector 30 for questioning.

While talking to Newsline,a senior CBI official said,“The questioning is not yet complete. The suspects can be called again. The report is yet to be finalised. It is expected to take about a couple of weeks.”
