Three people from Punjab,who were allegedly kidnapped in Hong Kong where they had gone on a business trip,have returned safely after their abductors were arrested by Hong Kong police. The victims have been identified as Manmahon Singh Khera from Macchiwara,Gurinder Singh Gill from Landran (Mohali) and Satvinder Singh Mavi from Bari village near Rupnagar.
Also,two people from Samrala – Upinderpal Singh Pali and Harbhajan Singh – were arrested after the victims alleged they had been involved in the episode. In addition to them,a third accused Simranjit Singh had been arrested by the police earlier on October 28 near a resort in Samrala,while Ali and Mani,the Pakistanis who had kidnapped the victims in Hong Kong have already been arrested.
According to police,Khera had been lured by Pali,Harbhajan and Simranjit to sell off his property in Ludhiana to two Hong Kong-based businessmen. After the deal had been finalised for Rs 10.9 crore,Khera had been asked to go to Hong Kong to collect the money. Khera then went to the city with his friends Gurinder and Mavi. Simranjit,who had brokered the deal,also went with the trio.
A case was registered in Samrala on October 23 when Kheras brother Naginder Singh,approached the police alleging ransom calls by the accused.
Simranjit was arrested after he returned to Samrala to collect the ransom of Rs 5 lakh from Naginder.
