It was a fine day for Chandigarh boxers as three of them stormed into the finals in their respective categories on the penultimate day of the 20th AK Misra All India Senior Men’s Boxing Championship played at Sector 10 Skating Rink on Saturday.
In the 64 Kg category,Naresh Kumar of Chandigarh ‘B’ team continued his winning spree in the tournament as he ended the challenge of Vijendar of Rajasthan with a 6-4 win to book a berth in the finals. In the other semi-final encounter in the same category,Duryodhan Singh of ASI scored a 16-4 win over Dushyant of Madhya Pradesh. It was easy going for Surender of Chandigarh ‘A’ team as he got a walkover from Tek Chand of Madhya Pradesh in the 81 kg semi-finals. Surender will now face Akash Kumar of Rajasthan who edged past Gaurav Panwar of Delhi with a 19-12 win. In the +91 kg category,Rajvir of Chandigarh ‘A’ team scored a narrow 8-7 win over Baljinder Singh of Punjab to storm into the finals. He will now face Arun Kumar of ASI,who defeated Ali Asgar of Maharashtra through RSC.
Meanwhile,it was curtains for Chandigarh ‘A’ team’s Shudham Singh as he lost narrowly 6-7 to Uttar Pradesh’s Nitish Shukla in the 69 kg category. In another semi-final bout,Chandigarh ‘A’ team’s Varabhya Kumar lost through RSC to Sujeet Kumar of Madhya Pradesh in the 91 Kg semi-finals. In the other semi-final in the same category,Vikas Singh of Delhi registered a narrow 12-11 win over Brijesh Yadav of Rajasthan. Earlier in the day,Ankur Bansiwal of ASI stormed into the 49 Kg final with a 12-11 win over Gagandeep Singh of Punjab. In the other semi-final encounter in the same category,Davender of Indian Navy ended the challenge of Sudeep of Haryana with an easy 12-4 win. In the 52 Kg category,Sandeep of Haryana edged past Sadish Kumar of Punjab with a 20-10 win in the semi-finals while Tarsem Kumar of Indian Navy booked his berth in the final with a 22-17 win over Sumit Kumar of Delhi in the other semi-final encounter in the same category.
It was easy going for Manjeet Kumar of Indian Navy as he scored a 21-8 win over Rahul Yadav of Maharashtra to move into the 56 kg finals. In the other semi-final in the same category,Vijay Yadav of ASI scored a 12-6 win over Deepak Singh of Karnataka.
