Another newborn child was found dead at the premises of Civil Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula Friday — the third such incident reported since August.

The newborn girl was found in the park near the hospital’s mortuary around 9 am by one of the cleaning staff who alerted the senior hospital staff immediately. On examination, the child was found to be dead.

“The newborn child was abandoned and we are investigating whose child it was,” said PMO, Gopal Bhardwaj.

Virender, incharge of Police Post at the hospital, said, “The girl weighs half a kg and has been kept into the mortuary of the hospital. We have examined the CCTV footage but could not get any clue. Also, there is no CCTV camera in and around the park where the child was found at. We will conduct a DNA test and take our investigations forward with it.”

Earlier on August 28, a newborn boy was found dead in the emergency ward bathroom of the hospital at 2 pm. After the police investigation, it was found, the next day, that a 16-year-old girl had given birth to the dead baby in the bathroom. The girl had come to the hospital, complaining of stomach ache, along with her parents. She had delivered the baby inside the bathroom and left.

In the second case, another newborn boy was brought dead to the hospital, on September 7, by a minor who claimed that she was from Shimla and had delivered the baby on the way to the hospital.

The girl reached the hospital at 8 pm, and after handing over the baby to the hospital and getting herself treated, ran away at around 10pm. Police had alleged carelessness on the hospital’s part for not taking any proper credentials of the girl before admitting her.
