With an average of two thefts taking place in city houses everyday, around 10 of them in the last two months have been distinctive. Theses thefts have taken place at government quarters that fall under the jurisdiction of Sector 17 police.
Interestingly, all the thefts had a similar modus operandi. The Sector 17 police recently deployed two personnel in civil clothes around government quarters, the operation which lasted for about 10-12 days. However,it seems that the unidentified thief has outsmarted the police and is aware of its activities as just three days after the operation was closed, another theft took place.
Recently,we conducted an operation to nab the unidentified thief. During the operation,no theft took place in the area. However, three days later,a case was reported, said DSP (Central) Ashish Kapoor. When asked as to why the operation was stopped,Kapoor said,Such operations normally last for around 10 days.
However, with the unidentified thief still not nabbed, the Chandigarh police is planning to resume the operation soon.
Since the facility of central locking is not available at government quarters,it is easy for the thief to trespass the house by pulling out the latch, police said.
According to sources, some incidents of thefts went unreported as the complainant did not wish to register a case.
Recently on November 12,Rs 7 lakh cash and jewelery were stolen from a Sector 23-A government quarter. Again, the latch was found to be missing from the door.
