A WEEK after nabbing a woman and her daughter, local police have arrested another daughter of the woman for her alleged involvement in a theft which took place at a jewellery showroom in Sector 35. The accused woman assisted her brother in stealing some diamond rings from the showroom, said the police.

According to the police officials, the accused has been identified as Anamika, a resident of Jammu. The accused was arrested after the police got information from the owners of Sundar Jeweller who said that some jewellery was stolen from their showroom around two months ago.

The police officials said that after the arrest of Rita and her daughter Aaradhna from Sham Jeweller where they were stealing some diamond rings on August 13, they lodged an FIR against unknown persons who committed the theft in a similar fashion at Sundar Jeweller’s shop in Sector 35. The officials added that during the course of investigation, they came to know that accused Anamika was involved in the theft at Sundar Jeweller’s.

“She assisted her brother Ankush who is the mastermind behind all the thefts and also the main accused. She went to the jewellery shop from where they stole some jewellery, but recoveries are yet to be made,” said a police official.

Sector 36 Station House Officer Ram Dayal said that Anamika is a housewife and she used to assist her brother in the thefts in the city. He added that the owners of Sundar Jeweller approached the police after the arrest of both Rita and Aaradhna, following which a case was registered and Anamika was arrested.

The SHO added that the accused was produced in a court which sent her to judicial custody. Both Rita and Aaradhna were arrested from Sham Jeweller when the staff at the showroom recognised them with the help of the pictures circulated by the owner of Sundar Jeweller.

The main accused, Ankush, who is the son of Rita, managed to flee. Aaradhna attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the first floor of Sector 34 police station on August 15. Later, she was booked for the offence.
