The Municipal Corporation has not constituted its ward committees for the current year even after ten months having passed since the election of the new lot of councillors. The ward committees that are headed by the area councillor comprise of residents of the area. The list of recommended members has been sent from the MC to the UT Administration where these are awaiting clearance.
The ward committees are constituted for a period of one year. The residents, who are members, hold meetings with the area councillor as well as officials, highlighting the problems in their respective wards.
Councillors rue that the committees should have been constituted on time. Councillor Sat Prakash Aggarwal had raised the question in the meeting of the General House. He had said,There needs to be involvement of the area residents in the functioning of the MC. The ward committees give them this representation. The list has been prepared and sent to the Administration from where clearance has not been received.
The councillors said that once lists have been finalised by MC,the Administration should not take too much time in giving approval.
Similar views were expressed by councillor Pardeep Chhabra. He said that till now there was no intimation from the Administration about clearance being given to the names of members of the committee.
Earlier the constitution of the sub-committees of the MC was delayed for several months due to BJP alleging that it was not given adequate representation. Two sub-committees including those of primary health and primary education are yet to be constituted. The approval for these is also awaited from the Administration.
