SAD Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Avinash Chander was questioned for seven hours during his fifth appearance before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Thursday in connection with the alleged Rs 60,000 crore synthetic drug racket case.
The ED had summoned the CPS, his wife Santosh Kaler and brother Steven Kaler on Thursday. While Steven came in the afternoon, Santosh did not turn up till evening. Santosh had ignored summons twice this month. Chander, accompanied by his lawyer, went straight to the ED office around 10.30 am, avoiding the media waiting for him. He stepped out after 5.30 and remained tight-lipped.

Heavy security was deployed outside the ED office after AAP leaders had protested when Chander was scheduled to appear before ED but did not show up.
Congress Sewa Dal leaders waved placards at him with slogans like “Chitta Haathis” (white elephants) written on them.
The outfit’s additional organising secretary, Simranjit Singh, demanded removal of Chander as CPS and said there was no need of CPSs in Punjab that is is already facing shortage of funds.

Chander’s name had reportedly appeared in businessman Chuni Lal Gaba’s diary, where Rs 48 lakh was mentioned against Chander, and then struck off. Gaba is already in jail along with his sons in synthetic drug case.On his last hearing in March, Chander had spent 11 hours before ED officials. Despite repeated attempts, he could not be contacted.
