In a piece of good news for students seeking admission to Panjab University(PU) and all its affiliated colleges,the university has decided to extend the last date of admission to
This decision was taken at the Syndicate meeting held in the university on Saturday,which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor,Professor Arun Kumar Grover. The meeting which continued for more than seven hours,discussed all the 28 agenda items put on table and took various student friendly decisions,as earlier discussed in the PU Board of Finance meeting.
In one such decision,the university has decided to defer decision on the date to implement the new fee structure for hostels in the campus. It also approved enhancement of the monthly stipend/scholarships from Rs 500 to Rs. 2,000 given to ten students of the Department of Indian Theatre. The monthly stipend given to the students of Dr. H.S. Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital who have passed the B.D.S. (I years course) has also been increased from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 9,000.
In order to maintain high standards in higher education,the university has also decided to adopt new templates for the selection of Assistant Professors in the teaching department and affiliated colleges of PU. It also approved the Board of Finance decision to extend the benefit of maternity leave (with pay) to female contractual employees working in PU.
This benefit will not be extended to those female employees who have three or more living children. The Financial assistance/Grant/Subsidy given to the university teachers for attending conferences/workshop/seminars/symposium within the country as per their entitlement by way of rail/bus /air from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 in a financial year has also been enhanced.
The Board of Finances decision regarding fixation of pay of Readers/Lecturers (Selection Grade) selected/promoted after January 1,1996 has also been accepted.
The approval of the award of PhDs to the students and many selections for teaching and non-teaching posts including Director,Regional Centre at Panjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre,Hoshiarpur were among other important decisions.
